Allow the microphone
Your browser asks once whether this site may use the microphone. If it was told no, it keeps saying no without asking again, until you change it in its settings. Find your device below. The names of the buttons vary a little between versions.
iPhone or iPad, in Safari
- On the recording page, tap the button at the left of the address bar. It looks like aA or a small page.
- Tap Website Settings.
- Set Microphone to Allow, tap Done, then tap Record again.
No Microphone line there? Open the Settings app, go to Apps, then Safari, then Microphone, and choose Ask or Allow. On older iPhones it is Settings, then Safari, then Microphone.
iPhone or iPad, in Chrome
Open the Settings app, go to Apps, then Chrome, and turn on Microphone. Then come back and tap Record again.
Android, in Chrome
- Tap the icon at the left of the address bar.
- Tap Permissions, then Microphone, and allow it.
- Reload the page and tap Record again.
Still blocked? Open the phone's Settings, then Apps, Chrome, Permissions, Microphone, and allow it.
On a computer
- Chrome or Edge: click the icon at the left of the address bar, turn on Microphone, and reload the page.
- Safari on a Mac: in the Safari menu, choose Settings for this website, set Microphone to Allow, and reload.
- Firefox: click the crossed-out microphone in the address bar, clear the block, and reload.
On a Mac, the browser itself also needs the microphone: System Settings, then Privacy & Security, then Microphone.
Opened the link from inside another app? Email and messaging apps sometimes open links in a browser of their own, which may not be allowed to record. Open the link in Safari or Chrome instead.
