FAQ
Getting started
What is it?
An answering machine for your child's Yoto. Family and friends record a voice message on their phone, and it plays on the Yoto player, on a card you choose.
What do I need?
A Yoto player, the Yoto app, and a Make Your Own card (the blank cards Yoto sells). The messages also play from the Yoto app, so a card is technically optional--but highly recommended.
How do I put the messages on a card?
You link the card in the Yoto app, once. It takes about a minute: here's how.
Leaving messages
Do the people I invite need a Yoto account?
No. They sign in with their email address, and they never pay anything.
How do I invite someone?
From your tape's People page. We can email them a link or you can send it however you like.
Personalized links are good for 7 days. And you have full control to revoke invitations you create.
How long can a message be?
Up to 3 minutes.
How many messages fit on a tape?
Up to 20. Once it's full, a new message records over the oldest one, just like an answering machine.
How many messages can each person leave?
5 a day each, to start with. You can change that for each tape, up to 20.
Can I remove someone, or a specific message?
Yes. You can pause or remove anyone at any time, and choose whether their messages stay. You can also delete any single message, here or in the Yoto app.
Paying
How much does it cost?
Try it free for 14 days. No card needed. Prices are on the home page.
Who pays?
Only the person who owns the Yoto account. Everyone they invite records for free.
What happens if I stop paying?
New recordings can't be added. Everything already on the tape stays there and keeps playing. We don't touch existing tapes and the messages on them.
Can I get a refund?
Yes. Within 14 days of paying, just ask and you get a full refund. More on the refunds page.
Privacy and Yoto
Who can hear the messages?
Whoever's got the Yoto: the player, the card, or your Yoto app. Nothing is public, and nothing can be shared onward.
Do you keep the recordings?
No. They live in your own Yoto library, as a standard Yoto playlist. More in our privacy notice.
What does Yoto share with you?
Only the bare minimum we need to provide this service. Each permission is explained on what we ask Yoto for.
Are you part of Yoto?
No. We're BirdBear Labs, LLC. An independent software company building on Yoto's developer API. About us.
Where are the terms?
See our terms of use.
